BEFORE THE SYMBOL
AVANT LE SYMBOLE
At the beginning, there was no symbol.
At the beginning, there was no logo.
No circle.
No geometry planned in advance.
There was simply an image.
A 4.
Or rather… two 4s.
Entangled.
Like a blurred vision.
A doubled image.
Two shapes overlapping until they become almost indistinguishable.
Two fours becoming one.
And yet, the 4 is not a randomly chosen number.
A square has four sides.
Four angles.
Four points defining a stable, constructed shape.
Four directions.
Four reference points.
Something simple.
Something raw.
Something constructed.
But the 4 can also represent a limit.
A boundary.
A structure that confines.
So, two 4s…
Two structures.
Two faces.
Two directions meeting.
Or opposing each other.
44.
But why 44?
Perhaps there is a precise answer.
Perhaps several.
Perhaps a date.
Perhaps a place.
Perhaps a personal reference.
Or perhaps something completely different.
I prefer to leave the doubt.
Because at the beginning, 44 was not an explanation.
It was a sensation.
An image.
A doubling.
Two 4s searching for each other, overlapping, merging,
almost blurring into one.
Before the symbol, there was only the number.
Then the project began to evolve.
The first blurred vision gradually found its own shape.
44 became an identity.
Then a sign.
But that came later.
The symbol came later.
In the beginning, there were only two 4s.
Entangled.
Doubled.
Almost blurred.
44.
And perhaps its true meaning will remain somewhere
between what I intended to put into it…
and what each person chooses to see in it.
Maybe the answer is not meant to be found.
Two fours becoming one.
Quatre directions.
Quatre repères.
Quelque chose de simple.
De brut.
De construit.
Mais le 4 peut aussi représenter une limite.
Une frontière.
Une structure qui enferme.
Alors deux 4…
Deux structures.
Deux faces.
Deux directions qui se rencontrent.
Ou qui s’opposent.
44.
But why 44?
Before the symbol, there was only the number.
The symbol came later.
Maybe the answer is not meant to be found.
